Created in 2017, Edgar is both an alter ego and the acronym of its three founders, Stanislas Elluin, Igor Duolé and Ludovic Gillon, all of who are graduates of the École nationale supérieur d’architecture et de paysage in Bordeaux, France. The agency was created on the basis of a common passion for architecture and fueled by their complementary backgrounds and visions. Together, they use architecture to question the way we live and also to design urban systems that connect architecture to history.
Edgar sees contemporary architecture as a means to explore spatial and societal possibilities. Each project is an opportunity to experiment, encouraging collaboration with the client. The agency also pays close attention to the historical and environmental context in which the project is built. Edgar strives for simplicity and functionality when designing a building. The architecture itself is straightforward and the construction is done as efficiently as possible.
“The structure forms the architecture, the material makes the project and the story is the framework.”
Edgar is committed to working locally, drawing its strength from collective work and implementing an open interpretation of architecture itself. Projects are designed without preconceived ideas, whether it is for a new construction, conversion or renovation on a small, medium or large scale. The agency takes the time to discuss and show their work, from the beginning stages to the final product.
