Florent Papet has been a freelance architect since 2012. Depending on the project, he works as a freelancer or within the Athom Architecture studio that he co-founded with Romain Fournier.

The studies are carried out in a methodical and pragmatic way, approaching the project, from the very first phases, under its numerous issues: spatial, economic, technical, aesthetic, ecological, regulatory. Thanks to a combination of skills in drawing, 3D modelling, technical and regulatory studies and detailed costing, the Athom Architecture studio makes appropriate proposals which form the basis of the dialogue with the client. The client is thus involved at each stage of the project, whether it be to study the proposed layouts, to define his aesthetic and usage preferences, to validate the services according to their costs... The design is the result of reflection and dialogue to respond to the many issues specific to each project. While mastery of the technical and economic aspects is essential, the success of the project will be measured above all by the use of the space created. Each place must combine practicality (uses), performance (ecology/economy) and aestheticism (integration into the landscape).

Any construction requires the use of significant natural resources, whether for its construction or for its operation. This is why the agency proposes construction systems that seek performance, while favouring local and natural materials as much as possible.

For new construction projects, Florent Papet and Romain Fournier favour the use of wood for its structural characteristics, which these architects combine with high-performance fibre insulation (straw, hemp bricks, cellulose wadding, wood wool, etc.) as well as with heavy materials to gain inertia (stone, concrete, raw earth) and keep cool in summer. These combinations of materials allow the creation of perspiring walls (capable of regulating the humidity of the wall) thus avoiding the degradation of the insulation over the years, while improving the quality of the indoor air.

For rehabilitation projects, these architects favour plant-based insulation (hemp, cork, cellulose wadding, wood wool, etc.) in order to respect the hygrometry of old stone or adobe walls. As far as possible, their approach is to conserve and enhance the existing built heritage (stone walls, brick frames, old roofing, etc.).
