MUTOA is a human-sized architectural agency founded by Thomas Mustel, DE-HMONP architect.
A graduate in architecture from the schools of Versailles and Paris-Malaquais, Thomas completed his training with a second course in Sweden, this time focusing on landscape. Quickly collaborating with a multidisciplinary agency in Stockholm, he had the opportunity to experiment with a practice of construction and planning that was culturally very distant from French habits. In this country with a harsh climate, as hostile in winter as it is idyllic in summer and where the sun sometimes shows very little, he focused on the needs linked to the climate and the relationship of the inhabitant with natural light. While continuing to work abroad and with the demanding approach he acquired there, Thomas Mustel returned to Paris in 2017 to try to explore in his own practice the possibilities of associating his Nordic experience with the needs of French territories.
Young, mobile and dynamic, MUTOA aims to provide consulting, design and implementation monitoring services by focusing on the different forms of dialogue inherent to the project. The priority is to develop a special, trusting relationship with each sponsor throughout the process, but also to establish a link with the artisans that the agency selects and with whom it enjoys working. More theoretically, this concern for dialogue is also characterized conceptually between, for example, the notions of space and matter, volume and light or even pragmatically, between programmatic needs and financial capacities.
A true choral object, the architectural and landscape project represents in the eyes of the team a precious stone whose edges and points arise from the meticulous shaping of its facets. The specific brilliance of the polyhedron, like so many surfaces, would then come from the addition of the values of a plurality of protagonists and their commitments in the act of building.
