Lisières is available for new projects

Lisières is an architecture studio founded by Lucille GUIRAUD, based at the foothills of the Cévennes. The practice focuses primarily on renovation and rehabilitation within rural buildings and environments. Working with existing structures, whether recent or centuries old, reflects a desire to make the most of what is already there: the built environment, the context and the people.

Lisières works on all types of projects, from feasibility studies through to final handover, and also provides Client Advisory and Assistance Services (AMO).

Lisières does architecture — but not only.

Attention to, and close collaboration with, the people who will inhabit a place are at the heart of the studio’s approach to project management. As part of a wider project or as a standalone service, Lisières also organises consultation and participation workshops, including participatory workshops, educational sessions for schoolchildren and support for co-design and co-construction initiatives.

Lisières was founded by Lucille Guiraud, a State-Qualified Architect (Architecte HMONP). After studying in Marseille and gaining experience in several practices working across a wide range of programmes, she made a complete change of direction and moved to Lozère. There, she worked as an architect and advisor to local authorities for the CAUE, while also leading various educational workshops for schoolchildren.

This experience had a strong influence on her practice, which became firmly focused on rural communities. She particularly enjoys working with local authorities on projects that may appear modest in scale, yet are often ambitious in their aim to improve the quality of the living environment.

She also carried out several assignments for the Architectes des Bâtiments de France (ABF), including work on Mende Cathedral, materials guidance and relationships with local stone industries.

She eventually settled at the foothills of the Cévennes, near Alès, where she developed a diverse practice bringing together the themes that matter most to her: rurality, historic and traditional buildings, and their renovation using appropriate materials and techniques — including bio- and geo-sourced materials, thermal inertia, vapour permeability and thermal time lag — as well as, of course, the people who inhabit these places, young and old.

Today, she collaborates with various fellow architects and architectural practices depending on the scale and requirements of each project.

Lisières is a member of Envirobat Occitanie, a network and resource centre dedicated to sustainable buildings and urban development. The organisation aims to help reduce the environmental footprint of buildings and neighbourhoods by supporting the ecological and energy transition of the construction and development sectors. It does so by bringing together and informing industry professionals, while promoting the values of innovation, resilience and resource efficiency.
