Auriane Riehl, State-Qualified Architect (Architecte DE HMONP)

Graduating in 2020 from the École nationale supérieure d’architecture Paris–Val de Seine, Auriane Riehl founded Esseuil Studio in 2025 to develop a thoughtful and sensitive approach to architecture, rooted in the Provençal, Parisian and Cantal regions. These territories are particularly dear to her and have shaped, from an early age, the way she sees cities, landscapes and the ways in which we inhabit them.

Her professional experience has been built within both French and international practices, including LIN Architects Urbanists (Berlin), Manabu Chiba Architects (Tokyo), Lambert Lenack Architectes (Paris), Atelier Pampelonne (Marseille) and Atelier Régis Roudil Architectes (Aix-en-Provence). These experiences have allowed her to work on a wide range of projects, varying in both scale and programme: collective housing, public buildings, public-sector commissions and private projects, with a particular focus on geo- and bio-based architecture using materials such as stone, timber, earth and straw.

Esseuil Studio

Based in Marseille, Esseuil Studio explores the relationship between the essence of a place and the thresholds we inhabit. The practice places use and the user at the heart of each project, drawing on locally sourced, geo- and bio-based materials to create architecture that is sensitive, sustainable and deeply rooted in its context. Architecture as a passage between the built environment and the living world.

Esseuil is an idea: a point of balance between essence and threshold, between what grounds us and what connects us, between matter and movement.

Here, architecture is conceived as a connection — between a place and those who inhabit it, between the memory held in the ground and the gestures of everyday life. The aim is to seek precision rather than prowess, listening before form, and trace before signature.

Each project is rooted in its context, born from a climate, a light and a way of living. Materials are selected for their coherence and authenticity, telling the story of the earth, of time, and of the hand that shapes them.

Architecture does not impose itself: it accompanies, listens and reveals. It inhabits the thresholds.
