Gil BAKHTIAR is an architect who graduated from the École Spéciale d'Architecture and an architect-designer who graduated from the Camondo school. His inspiration comes from his dual Eurasian, French and Persian culture. His atypical career has led him to carry out projects on a wide range of scales, from everyday objects to urban planning projects combining buildings and landscape.
He takes a global approach, linking the living spaces of interior architecture with the identity of the building, whether it's a new build or a refurbishment. Its place in the landscape leads it to a contextual study that respects the natural and cultural environment. The creation of green spaces reinforces the values it defends, so as to create porosity between living spaces and strengthen social links, for both everyday users and those passing through. From individual houses, intimate and personal projects, to hotels that meet specifications that it can help to define, GBA is keen to respond to a wide variety of projects, which it sees as a constantly evolving qualitative enrichment that enables it to share the essentials with its project owners.
With over 30 years' experience behind it, Gil has gradually become aware of the growing need for flexibility in public and private buildings, given the sustainability challenges facing the living world. This observation guides him in his choices in terms of environmental impact and materiality, and in favouring short supply chains and regional players. The act of building goes beyond the need to respond to a need, and it seems essential to him to reflect upstream on the temporality of the building's existence, on its very legitimacy. This approach is well received by clients, most of whom are aware of the ecological transition we are undergoing. Here, the role of the architect goes beyond the notion of builder of assets to broaden the scope of his thinking from utopia to the materialisation of the values he shares with project owners.
Hotels, shops, detached houses, flats and design products for both private individuals and brands have all been part of GBA's career path, and it regularly challenges itself in a positive way in order to meet the demands of its clients. The exchange of ideas with all the players it interfaces with is its DNA, which nourishes its projects.
