DE CATHELINEAU PAUL is available for new projects

Paul de CATHELINEAU is an architect who graduated from ENSA Normandie (2019), accredited to practice independently (HMONP) at ENSA Clermont-Ferrand (2021), and registered with the Order of Architects of Normandy. In 2025, he obtained his diploma as a heritage architect from the Centre des Hautes Études de Chaillot, specializing in interventions on existing buildings. At the same time, he trained in bio-based construction, particularly hemp-based materials.

He has enriched his practice within renowned agencies recognized for their achievements, their stance, and their vision of architecture, including:

Aires Mateus (Lisbon)

Kengo Kuma (Tokyo)

Pierre-Antoine Gatier, ACMH (Paris)

RCR Arquitectes, Pritzker Prize laureates (Olot).

These experiences, marked by their diversity—geographical and cultural contexts as well as practices ranging from new construction to rehabilitation and restoration, and the variety of programs addressed—confer upon his practice a sensitive and transversal vision of projects. Since 2021, he has shared this approach through teaching architectural design at ENSA Normandie.

Paul de CATHELINEAU’s practice, within his own architectural studio, is characterized by a systemic vision that anchors architecture in its territory through the lens of use, space, and time.

The territory is considered in all its dimensions: historical, constructive, landscape, ecological, urban, social, and economic. Use, as the soul of a place, guides the design of spaces and inhabits them. Space, in its diversity of scales—from the plain to the garden, from the living room to the bedroom—is intimately tied to use, which reveals it. Volume, material, and light combine in a sensitive synthesis, brought to life by the architect. Time illuminates the challenges of each project, between memory and future. It is addressed both as heritage, nourishing and supporting each intervention through history, and as a vector of adaptability, requiring buildings that are reversible, modular, and capable of evolving with new uses.

Aware of architecture’s impact on societies and environments, Paul de CATHELINEAU grounds his practice in a thoughtful and sustainable approach, focused on existing structures, reversible transformation, and the preferred use of bio- and geo-sourced materials. Here, sustainability is understood in all its dimensions: cultural, social, technical, and temporal.

His method is clear and structured. A feasibility study is first carried out with the client. For heritage buildings, this includes a health and historical assessment; in other cases, two proposals are developed in line with the budget and the client’s expectations. Once the project is approved, a full mission is undertaken: from design to execution, through to site delivery. Contractors are involved from the study phases in order to align intentions with construction realities.
